Solar Street Lights: Project Buyer Guide
What project buyers and EPC contractors specify: lumen output, wattage, battery autonomy, pole height and the documents a tender needs.
This is the sourcing entry point for solar street lighting at ALUX. It is written for project buyers, EPC contractors, municipal buyers and distributors tendering for roads, car parks, pathways and compounds. Solar lighting is a specification-led purchase: the five variables below decide the bill of materials, and we ask for all five before quoting.
The five variables to specify
Variable | What it decides | What to tell us |
|---|---|---|
Lumen output | How much light reaches the road surface | Target lux level or lumen package |
Wattage (LED + panel) | Panel size and battery capacity needed | Solar irradiation at the site |
Battery autonomy | How many nights it runs without sun | Required nights of autonomy |
Pole height and spacing | Coverage area and uniformity | Road width, pole height, pole spacing |
Mounting and IP rating | Installation method and ingress protection | Pole diameter, IP requirement |
Lumens, watts and what to ask for
Lumen output, not wattage, is what determines whether a road is lit to the required level. Two fixtures with the same wattage can deliver very different lumen packages. When you send an enquiry, give us the target lux or lumen level and the road geometry; we size the fixture against it rather than selling a fixed wattage.
Battery autonomy
Autonomy is the number of consecutive nights the luminaire runs without meaningful recharge. It is the variable most often missed in a tender, and the one that drives battery cost. Specify it explicitly - for example two or three nights of autonomy - and state the dimming profile if the fixture runs a timed output schedule.
Pole height and installation
Pole height and spacing set the coverage and the uniformity of the lit area. Wider roads need taller poles and a wider distribution. Tell us road width, mounting height and pole spacing so the photometric can be checked before you order. Confirm pole diameter for the bracket fit.
Use cases
Municipal and rural roads. Car parks and industrial yards. Pathways, campuses and compounds. Perimeter and security lighting. Off-grid sites where grid connection is not available.
Project selection
Application | What usually matters most |
|---|---|
Roads and streets | Lumen package, uniformity, pole height |
Car parks and yards | Coverage area, autonomy, mounting height |
Pathways and campuses | Lower lumen package, sensor options, pole height |
Perimeter and security | Autonomy, motion sensor, rugged housing |

Customisation and documentation
Wattage and lumen package. Battery capacity and autonomy. CCT and CRI. Housing finish. Pole height and bracket. Sensor and dimming profile. Logo and model marking. For tender submissions we can provide the specification sheet, photometric data where available, and packing details - tell us which documents the tender requires so we can confirm what we can supply.
FAQ
Can you quote against a tender specification? Yes. Send the specification and the required documents and we will confirm line by line what we can meet.
Do you supply poles? Tell us the pole height and diameter you need; we confirm the bracket fit and whether the pole is in scope.
What do you need to size a project? Road width, pole height and spacing, target lux or lumen level, autonomy requirement, and site location for solar irradiation.
